Surgery team gives young patient a Halloween surprise

Halloween is considered a favorite holiday for many of the staff and patients at St. Jude. In fact, most of the staff participates by dressing in costumes, decorating the hospital and handing out treats.

For young Rylee, she was disappointed her scheduled surgery would interfere with Halloween. But her surgical team took patient-centered care to a new level when they developed a Halloween surprise for Rylee.

Sara Mansfield, MD, and Courtney Wilkerson, RN, found a Halloween-themed doll they named Jackie O’Lantern and came up with a plan that allowed Rylee to celebrate Halloween and have a friend along the way.
